The final chapter...

Through the term also we had to keep an ongoing personal or process journal. This was to document everything we were doing. This task was a pain to do but made us critically reflect on what we were doing and what we could improve.

Overall I've really enjoyed this term! Mr Bruce is an awesome teacher and he really helped my learning. At first I didn't like the idea but this digital learning event has honestly been one of the most fun yet educational experiences in high school!

The Pop-up Restaurant...

Now had come the big day! The day that we finally got to combine everything we'd done and run our own pop-up restaurant! Surprisingly it went really well! Our team work together almost seamlessly and there were only a few little bumps in the road. We had a couple of problems with customer orders being sent to the wrong table or receiving the wrong meals and I think this was because it was a new experience for us and we were quite nervous. Apart from that all the digital work we had completed before hand ran well. Looking back at customer feedback also reflected this. Customers couldn't believe we were only teenagers running the stall. We also got great feedback on our interactive menus. Customers loved how easy it was to use and the amount of information it displayed! We were really proud of what we achieved!

Creating a customer critique...

The following task required a critique to be made for customer satisfaction. As a group we brainstormed platforms we could get reflections off customers and decided on digital based - Survey Monkey. The program allows the users to create customer surveys and display then in various ways. These included star values, short response, yes or no answers and more. So began work on crafting the questionnaire. Our main focus was going to be on the effectiveness of digital technologies in a restaurant, customer experience, and taste. We based all of our critique questions on the basis of those factors. The survey was now completed and ready for customer use!

Designing a floor plan...

Next task involved us creating a proposed floor plan. This had to display where important elements would be placed in the restaurant. So that included customer service, menus (via iPads), tables and chairs, as well as the kitchen area. Our group decided on going with the placement of menus the way mentioned previously. We also thought it was important to be spacious and open so we put dinning off to the side and left customer service clean. We thought this open plan design would benefit customer experience. Our plan was now complete!

Making the menu...

The next task we were required to complete was to create a menu. Our teacher stressed to us that we had unlimited access to iPads when we were at our 'pop-up restaurants'. As a group we first discussed how we would display our menu. I mentioned putting one at the front of the stall so potential customers could easily see before entering. Other team members suggested one for each table and also one at customer service. We went with all these options as they would digitally enhance the experience for our customers. We then decided we wanted to go with and Italian menu theme. So much about Italian food is about sharing and family and sourcing fresh locally grown produce. We thought this reflected well with Big Tops mission! So with our cuisine and menu placement ideas ready we had to create the actual menu. At first we looked at apps for making interactive menus but they were costly so we decided to make a website to display it. This way customers could easily tap an item and look at price, ingredients, and allergen lists. We started work on that element of the assessment.

Creating a name and logo...

Our first task was to create a business name and logo. Also as part of the assessment we had to record our process via a digital based journal - I chose a blog. Initially we individually brainstormed ideas of a name which was presented in a word processed PMI. Then we picked our favourite two ideas and shared to our group. After much discussion the name 'UrbanFresh' was chosen. This was because it sounded trendy as well as reflecting well with the Big Tops mission statement. Now we could begin working on a business logo. As the Big Top was so much about fresh Mr Bruce stressed that the logo should also reflect this. We began by conducting an investigation. We searched for other business logos that were in the same genre as ours (like cafés and restaurants). Then we were asked to create another PMI. From there we each had to design some ideation sketches for our own business logo taking inspiration from the ones we had just researched. After that step we collectively came together and shared out top idea. We deliberated for a bit and ultimately made a new design that incorporated everyone's different elements to make an even better logo. Now it was time to digitally design the logo! Our group decided on using Didlr. This was because we had to also create a physical logo for when our restaurant popped up. Didlr has an export option where you can easily print out designs onto canvas and more! After a few lessons our design was completed and we were awaiting arrival.

This was going to be different...

This term was completely different to any I've had before. Mostly this was because it was based so much around ICT.  Like, for example, Mr Bruce didn't even hand out a task sheet! Instead he asked us to access it on a website called 'Wikispaces'. It's like an online classroom. That's where he stored other important information about the task too. After a bit of a moan we all had the task sheet in front of us. We read it and analysed what it was asking us to do. Mr Bruce then put us into groups and we began working towards our own 'pop-up restaurant'!

Let's Start From The Beginning...

At the beginning of this term we were set the task of completing a 'digital learning experience'. We were given a task sheet that was named 'fresh food; new ways'. At first I wasn't sure what it was asking us to do, but when we further broke down the task it all became clear! The main focus of the assessment was to create a 'pop-up restaurant' but the journey of getting there was equally as important. The setting of the restaurant was at Big Top Market Fresh. They had asked for students of our school who were passionate about fresh and healthy food. This needed to be reflected in our stall at their centre. They prided themselves on being 'fresh'! So began our assessment.
